Since the 1950s, our family has been hand-knotting rugs in the heart of Pakistan. What began as a single loom in a small workshop has grown into a respected producer serving collectors, interior designers, and institutions across the globe.

“We have never made a rug by machine. We never will.”

For seven decades, we have maintained an unwavering commitment to quality over quantity. Every rug that leaves our workshop carries the signature of the artisans who made it — a tangible record of skill, patience, and tradition.

Our philosophy is simple: we do not compromise on materials, process, or aesthetics. We work with wool sourced from the finest herds across Pakistan and Kashmir. We employ traditional hand-knotting techniques that have been refined over generations.

Today, our workshop remains largely unchanged from how it operated fifty years ago. The looms are the same. The techniques are the same. The commitment to hand-work is absolute. In an industry increasingly defined by mechanisation and shortcuts, we stand apart.

How We Got Here

1950s
The First Loom
Our founder sets up the first loom in Lahore, Pakistan. A single workshop, a handful of weavers, and a commitment to making rugs the right way — by hand, from the finest local wool.
1970s
Natural Dye Traditions
The workshop expands its dyeing practice, formalising techniques using indigo, madder root, and pomegranate. These recipes, developed over decades, remain in use today.
1990s
International Recognition
The first international buyers take notice. Collectors and design houses across Europe and North America begin commissioning bespoke pieces directly from the workshop.
2010s
Second Generation
The next generation of the family takes stewardship of the workshop, introducing new collection frameworks while preserving the techniques and standards established by the founder.
Today
Rug Atelier
The brand is formalised under the name Rug Atelier. The mission is unchanged: produce the finest hand-knotted rugs in the world, from Pakistan, for the most discerning clients in the world.

Three Principles

01
No Compromises on Material
We source only the finest wool from Pakistan and Kashmir. Every batch is hand-inspected for fibre length, lanolin content, and natural colour before entering our workshop.
02
Hand-Work Only
Every knot is tied by hand. Every row is inspected by eye. There is no mechanical shortcut that does not compromise the result, and we do not take shortcuts.
03
Generational Knowledge
Our techniques are not written in manuals. They are taught hand to hand, loom to loom, across generations of weavers who have dedicated their lives to this craft.
